This paper looks at how complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) in France is regulated, and argues that the system as it stands is not equipped to cope with growing demands from users. It explains the ambivalence of the system, and suggests that improvements depend on regulators being able to engage the social as well as scientific elements of CAM.
