Why is it important?

Cindy Grines has authored over 400 publications - many of which became landmark studies . She was one of the first people to do a prospective multicentre international trial comparing primary angioplasty to thrombolytic therapies which became one of the landmark trials to convert the world into using primary angioplasty instead of thrombolytic therapy. She has been involved in many leadership roles on the boards of institutions such as the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the Society of Coronary Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), and the American Heart Association (AHA), as well as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). She has participated widely in consultations on guidelines and position papers providing guidance for current therapies in interventional cardiology. She is the only female editor of an interventional journal- The Journal of Interventional Cardiology. Grines is actively involved in a group called Women in Innovation, (WIN) which focuses on networking and peer support for female interventionists who may find themselves the sole female in their hospital team.
