What is it about?

Pulmonary blood volume is a new accurate and reproducible way of grading congestion in our lungs. In this paper, we explored the prognostic value of this new parameter in a cohort of asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic patients with heart failure.

Why is it important?

Pulmonary blood volume is an accurate and reproducible parameter providing useful information about diastolic function and prognosis of our patients. The higher the pulmonary blood volume, the greater the risk of future cardiac events in patients with left ventricular dysfunction and no or mild symptoms.

Perspectives

Future studies about the usefulness of pulmonary blood volume by cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging in other clinical settings are ongoing.
