What is it about?
Faith communities play an important role in health promotion in some parts of the world, notably North America and Sub-Saharan Africa. They are less prominent in high-income countries with a well-developed national public health system such as the United Kingdom. Faith communities can be the instigator of health promotion so-called faith-based health promotion or they can be the locality where other agencies conduct their health promotion so-called faith placed health promotion. This article highlights a case study of health promotion and faith communities in and around the city of Dundee in Scotland, UK. The case study highlights key barriers and opportunities for current and future faith-based and faith-placed health promotion.
