This is the first thorough, archive-based comparison of all four occupation zones and regimes in Germany at the end of the Second World War. It compares the different occupiers' (the United States, the United Kingdom, France and the Soviet Union) approaches to the problem of Germany, the war and the possibilities for reconstruction.
