What is it about?

This paper explores the impact of future changes in wind over Australia due to climate change on the production of energy in wind farms. It examines the implications for existing, and proposed, wind farm locations.

Why is it important?

Future changes in wind will impact the viability/profitability of wind farms. Knowing how the wind resources will change into the future means that locations that remain suitable (or improve) can be targeted for the installation of new wind farms.

Perspectives

While much of Australia will see a small decrease in wind speeds in the future, technological improvements will more than make up for this ensuring wind energy production will be a good option for many decades.
