What is it about?
Redatuming, that is, the simulated repositioning of the seismic acquisition system at a new depth level, can be achieved by different kind of interferometric techniques. In this work, we demonstrate that the correlation-based procedure works for a homogeneous overburden, and discuss the nonphysical events it generates when the overburden is not homogeneous.

Why is it important?
As for any method, it is important to know the conditions under which conditions correlation-based interferometric redatuming is applicable and what to expect if those conditions are not fully met.
