What is it about?

We investigate the symbiotic relationship between experiment and computer simulation in helping to understand the structure and properties of liquid and amorphous materials under extreme conditions of high temperatures and/or high pressures.

Why is it important?

We show how quantum-beam diffraction-based methods can be combined with modern simulation techniques to understand the structure of disordered materials under extreme conditions at both the atomistic and electronic levels.

Perspectives

It's fun to see how different techniques can be brought together to solve seemingly intractable problems under hard to get to high temperature and/or pressure conditions.
