What is it about?

We show in a clinical study that polyphenol-supplementation (green tea and red wine extracts) has no effects on the morphology of fat tissue. There are a variety of processes that appear to be slowed down, such as renewal of cells, but also inflammatory processes.

Why is it important?

Dietary supplements are widely consumed, but their effects are poorly investigated. Here we show, that such consumption of polyphenols may not only be beneficial, but may re-programme the body (fat tissue in this case) towards impaired function.

Perspectives

We hope that communication of data such as this, which describes non-effects and possibly negative effects, helps to shape the communication around the use and prescription of dietary supplements.
