What is it about?
This study calculated the severity index and modelled the spatial disparity in the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria using LISA algorithm in GIS.

Why is it important?
Despite the voluminous research on road accident in Nigeria, no work has shown the severity risk index and this study's the first to determine accident risk severity index in Nigeria. The findings showed that the risk of accident is higher in the northern region of the country and in Oyo state in the south between 2012 and 2016.
Perspectives
Analysing accident severity is important to detemine areas in need of urgent intervention programmes.
