What is it about?
Reflective practice and reflection are terms that are used a lot, particularly in teacher training and health or social care professions. It is a 'good' thing to be. But it is not easy to teach and can be hard to do. It is easy to focus on the negative and ruminate which has been shown to be harmful to our health. In order to be reflective it helps to be self-aware, and we know that we can teach people to be self-aware through embodied practices such as yoga and movement.

Why is it important?
Reflection is such a large part of work and education today, and can be a necessary and useful tool to help us progress and improve. But it has become a buzz word, and almost meaningless, and a hoop that we have to jump through. This article sets out an embodied approach based on increasing self-awareness and aimed at developing a long-term, useful and positive reflective practice.
