What is it about?
The abdominal aorta (AA) is the largest vessel in abdominal cavity. It is frequently vulnerable to aneurysm in elderly. Age and gender are significant risk factors that affect the aortic diameter. Sonography plays a great role for assessing the diameter. Male sex is considered one of the most influential risk factors forabdominal aortic aneurysm with advanced age. It was reported that the incidence was common in men over the age of 65- years-old. This study highlights the role of sonography for evaluating the abdominal aorta.

Why is it important?
We defined the importantce of routine sonography for assessing the abdominal aorta. Screening ultrasonography is essential to assess aortic aneurysm. The prevalence of aortic aneurysm increased with age and is more common in the elderly. It is more frequent in men than in women, accounting for 1–3% of all deaths among men aged 65–85 years in developed countries. Why investigation with ultrasound? It is a useful diagnostic imaging modality since it is safe, simple, inexpensive, and accurate. Sonographic screening is beneficial in elderly who are suspected of higher risk of abdominal aortic aneurysm.
