What is it about?

This work presents a novel real condition based maintenance schedule to monitor and predict corrosion failures in large structures.

Why is it important?

Large structure are subject to corrosion failures and in turn their decay result in significant cost. Both over or under maintenance are not cost effective and sustainable. This model provides solutions to maintain these structure cost effectively.

Perspectives

This research responds to the need for prediction and prognostic framework applied to high value assets. Several industrial partners funded (£71.5K, grants 3055, 8882 & 8983) this research. This work has led to a novel sensor design which has been patented GB2018/053368. Based on recommendations from the research £2.5 million were secured by end user partner for sustainable conservation of stationary high vlue assets. This research has enhanced business and commercial benefits for another end user, enabled their system to monitor suspension bridges and natural gas pipelines.
