What is it about?
Approximate models are developed for the prediction of the initial and the expanded vessel’s gas volume.

Why is it important?
For water hammer protection. Very important tool is developed to estimate the vessel size. The developed models outperformed the existing design charts; yielding better scores in various statistical indicators, e.g. a high coefficient of determination of 0.94 and four orders of magnitude less error. The vessel’s initial gas volume is found to be affected mostly by the pipe diameter and static head, while the expanded gas volume depends on the initial gas volume and the static h
