What is it about?
Citizen science, including in the health science area, is becoming increasingly common. In New Zealand, we've piloted a community-based approach to citizen science, that provides an opportunity for cultural inclusivity and partnership, and is supported by other existing frameworks and laws.

Why is it important?
Whilst there is increasing focus on citizen science as an approach, there's often little consideration given to the intersection of citizen science with culture and how to navigate that. Based on our experience we've found that citizen science based on a community co-created approach provides an opportunity for cultural partnership and inclusivity for citizen science. We also have some other unique aspects of conducting research in New Zealand that aid in fostering inclusiveness.
