self compassion is an important variable for understanding the relationship between perfectionism and psychosomatic distress. we have shown for the first time that high self compassion is protective, but low self compassion is a risk factor, in the context of psychosomatic distress.

Why is it important?
Our findings show that the level of self compassion is an important variable for follow-up studies. It is the beginning of an optional way to investigate if it is possible to change the level of psychosomatic distress induced by perfectionism by manipulating the level of self compassion.
