What is it about?
Forehead box P1 (FOXP1) is a DNA binding transcription factor that controls gene expression in many normal cells. FOXP1 is very highly expressed in an aggressive blood cancer called activated B-cell-like diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (ABC-DLBCL). This publication reviews the existing literature on FOXP1 in DLBCL, its identification as a marker to identify high-risk lymphoma patients, mechanisms controlling its expression and emerging data on its function.

Why is it important?
This review provides an overview of the research studying FOXP1 in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and summarises key findings from many different research groups. Collectively the available data indicate that deregulated FOXP1 expression is one of the most important features in this blood cancer. FOXP1 promotes cell survival, oncogenic pathways and also enables DLBCL tumour cells to avoid the host immune system. Targeting FOXP1 may lead to new treatments.
