What is it about?
This article challenges two widely held views regarding Sāṁkhya: a) there are two kinds of opposing bhāva – sāttvika and tāmasika and b) Sāṁkhya Kārikā and Bhagavad-Gita present independent versions of Sāṁkhya. Both of the views are partly there because of certain misunderstandings regarding the bhāva doctrine of classical Sāṁkhya. I make an attempt to address the issue by restoring the meaning of the 23rd verse of the Sāṁkhya Kārikā.
