What is it about?

We describe in this work an approach that individually combines constant initialization, free-space backpropagation, transport of intensity equation (TIE) and multi-heightphaserecoverywith Fast Iterative Shrinkage Thresholding Algorithm (FISTA) to predict reconstruction of the phase microspheres from diffracted field measurements. We incorporate appropriate initialization and regularization to reconstruct unknown phase microspheres (transparent objects).

Why is it important?

The introduced approach used multi-height-based phase recovery and FISTA model to handle phase samples from complex diffracted field in inline holography. The optimization algorithm may fall in local minima of the cost function as generally occurs for nonlinear problems. We study the influence of constant initialization, freespace backpropagation, TIE against the one provided by multi-height phase recovery and total variation regularization to the convergence of FISTA. On the other hand, we investigate the influence of the initial object term obtained by multi-height phase recovery for lower and upper object’s boundaries determination when fed to the optimization algorithm.

Perspectives

Initialization criteria are critical for nonlinear inverse problems such as in-line holography. Understanding their impact upon reconstructions would be useful for the field.
