What is it about?

The dietary intake pattern evolves with the development trajectory of a nation. Using HIES 2000, 2005 and 2010 data of Bangladesh, the present study examined the factors that contribute to the evolving food consumption pattern of a developing country. It demonstrates that with the increase in income, and urbanization, households increasingly consume more high food value enriched food such as meat, fish and vegetables.

Why is it important?

A number of countries in Asia and Africa are economically emerging rapidly due to speedy growth in per capita GDP, speedy urbanization and the changes in the lifestyle. It is important to understand how these factors affect the food consumption pattern and thereby food security of the burgeoning population.
