What is it about?

We attempt to answer the effect of seasons (hot in summer and cold in winter) on evaporation characteristics of a saturated porous medium. Essentially, we investigate the effect of heat flux on evaporation from soil-like surfaces. The results of this study are relevant for agricultural planning and removing moisture in buffer stocks.

Why is it important?

The research finds its importance in water scheduling in field. Further, the understanding of moisture loss covered in this work is relevant to food processing industries.

Perspectives

The research proves that high heating rates do not always give proportionally high rates of moisture loss. It might be energy efficient to process food at lower heat loads but for slightly longer times.
