What is it about?
This article is about students who are homeless when they come to university, or become homeless while at university. It was carried out by interviewing 11 homeless students, and completing a focus group with five other homeless students. Homelessness among students may be increasing due to the initiative to widen participation in higher education, combined with a precarious housing market. The study found that the main reason why mature students come to university, and stay at university, is their relationship with their families- particularly their children. Homeless students do not report their situation to the university, and in some cases do not tell their friends and family. This means that this issue may be more significant than realised by universities
