What is it about?

This paper explores the links between housing and well-being. Access to appropriate and affordable housing should be a key concern for social work. This paper explores contemporary housing policy and practice issues and sets out four case-studies which illustrate a range of key housing issues. This paper will be a valuable resource for qualified social workers, social work students and practice educators. Social work and social policy academics will find the case-studies helpful as a resource to use and adapt in teaching sessions.

Why is it important?

Housing should be a key area of concern for social work students and practitioners. The links between housing and well-being are well established and there is a need to understand contemporary housing practice and policy issues to effectively work with a wide range of service users. Equally the authors hope that the case-studies explored in this paper will be useful for social work academics to use and adapt in the classroom.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great opportunity to collaborate with a colleague with who I had worked at a previous organisation and to draw on our respective strengths. I hope that you find this article thought provoking and that it will be of interest to social work students and academics, practice educators and qualified social workers.
