What is it about?
This study represents a first attempt to investigate aerobic baccilli diversity in the best known and hottest ( 98°C) hot spring in Algeria. The results showed a clear domination of the genus Bacillus . These strains showed a high enzymatic potential and might be an interesting source of industrial enzymes.

Why is it important?
The extreme environment from which the isolates were recovered is poor in nutrient, unpolluted and far from human activity. Despite that, the tested isolates have developed genetic and physiological aptitude to use available organic matter . That may, not only contribute to nutrient cycling in nature , but also the trend of microbial societies to show an adaptation to nutritional stress in order to survive with any available food.
