What is it about?

This paper looks at previous research on the use of audio in virtual reality (VR) to achieve some experiential outcome. By investigating the current literature with a scoping review, we summarise the domains where VR audio is being explored, which experiential aspects are being explored, and what the outcomes are. We also provide future agendas emphasising where research is lacking and how shortcomings in current research can be addressed.

Why is it important?

By providing an overview of existing research, we provide a starting point for the more general topic of audio use in VR.

Perspectives

We hope that this paper serves as a useful entry point for those who wish to focus on the use of audio in VR.
