What is it about?
The main objective of this study is to develop a light and fast algorithm to combine the superior sampling of the Hydro-Estimator (HYDRO) IR product with more accurate active microwave-based products. The method is based on the histogram matching (HM), a standard technique for image processing but that can be applied for model or satellite-based precipitation data as well.

Why is it important?
Rainfall is the main responsible agent for supply and maintenance of rivers, lakes, dams, and reservoirs over Brazil, as well as being a central component of the hydrological cycle. However, rainfall measurement is a difficult task because of the high temporal and spatial variability of precipitation. Meteorological satellites have been used to improve the identification and quantification of precipitation but have limitations. This work tries to address some limitations regarding the HYDRO rainfall estimations over Brazil, with the development of an adjusted version of this product (AHYDRO).
