What is it about?
We compare the level of job satisfaction between founders and family firm successors, finding that the former are 10%-15% more satisfied. We prove that the lower satisfaction of successors is due to their lower perceived discretion in making decisions in their firm.

Why is it important?
An asset of family businesses - their history and reputation - may become a burden for the second and later generations, who perceive the legacy of the founder as a constrain to their autonomy - even when they are the key decision-maker in their firm.
