Do university students take into account a university's research performance when they decide where to enrol?

Why is it important?
By using some bibliometric indicators to proxy a university's research performance, we do find that in Italy better-performing universities attract more student enrollments. This is important as it highlights some potential positive spillovers of better research on universities' attractiveness.
