What is it about?

“The Return of the Wasteland” is a poem about how the 20th century European wasteland resurfaces in a remote land of South Asia. T S Elito’s The Waste Land is no doubt a masterpiece of modernism, which became the defining poem of the 20th century and beyond.

Why is it important?

This poem shows how Eliot’s Europe portrayed in The Waste Land casts a shadow over a new location of South Asia as well as across frontiers. After all, the poem addresses the present crisis, both local and global, which certainly invokes Eliot's magnum opus The Waste Land.

Perspectives

The poem represents decline in morality, sanity, justice, and empathy towards humanity and environment in the contemporary world.
