What is it about?
This exploratory study interviewed extreme sport participants to identify their motivation factors. The traditional physical activity and leisure motivation factors were mastery, enjoyment, psychological condition, physical condition, affiliation, others’ expectations, competition/ego and two new motivations, i.e., catharsis and vertigo.

Why is it important?
Extreme sport participation continues to increase so the understanding of extreme sport participants motivation will assist leisure and sport researchers and managers to better understand what makes extreme sport unique and how to focus their promotion efforts.
