What is it about?

Herpesviruses oral shedding is more frequent in immunocompromised patients. We have investigated the oral shedding of herpesviruses in renal transplant pediatric patients, chronic renal disease pediatric patients and healthy children.

Why is it important?

We have shown that Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) are excreted more frequently in renal transplant pediatric patients than in healthy children.

Perspectives

This paper can lead to the development of salivary biomarkers of immunosuppression.
