What is it about?
Our findings show that the longer the divorce lasts, the more uncertainty and unpredictability people feel. These feelings shift from short-term stress to a deeper, ongoing strain. Individuals try different strategies to gain clarity and reduce stress, but these efforts do not always lead to success.

Why is it important?
Researchers have usually seen conflictual divorce as a type of separation filled with strong disagreements between partners. Only recently have they started paying more attention to how long this difficult period lasts. Still, it is not well understood how the length of the conflict itself creates stress or how people deal with it.Using a grounded theory approach, we explored how they experience the long duration of their divorce and how it affects their daily lives. We collected the data through two rounds of interviews.
