What is it about?

Even though posttraumatic growth (PTG) is commonly reported around the world, debate continues regarding whether PTG is real or illusory. To address this debate, we used a novel application of supervised machine learning artificial intelligence, to determine if high versus low posttraumatic growth could be predicted from electroencephalogram (EEG) measured brain activity.

Why is it important?

Results revealed alpha and gamma EEG frequency power could accurately predict from brain activity, whether individuals had high or low PTG. These results offer objective neurobiological evidence of the measurable existence of PTG. Our findings present the first whole-scalp topographies of PTG brain activity in published literature.
