What is it about?
In this paper, I evaluate the BBC’s early experiments in local broadcasting in the 1960s. This is significant because it explains the BBC’s approach to creating this new service for listeners, and how these trials influenced the eventual genesis and development of local radio in England. The evidence comes from original research in the BBC Written Archive where documents relating to the trials have been deposited.
