From one of the most isolated regions, northeast India is fast emerging as a connectivity hotspot - a bridge between South Asia and South-East Asia. How will this augur to the region? This commentary takes a critical look at the readiness of the region to survive competition in a connected world.

Why is it important?
With huge infra push underway, northeast Indian states are ecstatic about the growth opportunities ahead. What is forgotten though is that the local economy is highly inefficient to survive the stiff competition that the connectivity will invite.
Perspectives
The official narrative about the growth opportunities of northeast India are highly exaggerated and often driven by local nationalistic aspirations. This short paper presents a business-economics analysis to identify issues which are dogging the local economy right from agriculture to the services and, why it stands little chance to survive the competition.
