What is it about?
This article describes an intervention designed to increase the capacity of multi-stakeholder partnerships to address complex health and social care challenges. Particular attention is given to the role of independent facilitators in helping to bring together diverse partners in order to develop an agreed way forward.

Why is it important?
Public, private, voluntary and community organisations are increasingly expected to collaborate in order to address complex social problems. Achieving this, however, is not straightforward and may benefit from independent facilitation. This paper gives insights into how this can be done.
