What is it about?
Using one million Chinese pregnancies from pre-pregnancy checkup exams, we provide the first documentation of strong and robust evidence of assortative mating by ABO blood type. Compared to random matching, individuals are 5-18% more likely to marry partners with the same blood type (see Table 1 in the paper). The pattern remains when we control for socioeconomic variables such as education, region, and behavior.
