What is it about?

The variability of microbial enzymatic activity rates (leucine aminopeptidase, beta.glucosidase and alkaline phosphatase) and abundances is studied in relation to environmental variables in a Mediterranean lagoon system.

Why is it important?

This study explain the relationships between microbial processes and environmental variables, pointing out how high diversification within a lagoon system may occur in spite of the close proximity of the ponds.

Perspectives

This study provides useful data on microbial processes in a Mediterranean lagoon, that are the first available for the Oliveri-Tindari ecosystem.
