What is it about?

To ensure the smoothness and safety of road vehicular traffic, understanding the meaning of the massages carried out by road signs is essential. Many socioeconomic and driving-related factors can affect drivers’ understanding for traffic signs. The current paper attempts to examine how the drivers’ comprehension of signs is influenced by a number of these factors such as age, gender, residence, driving experience, vehicle type, and driving license status. A survey has been conducted whereby 450 drivers were interviewed. Thirty traffic signs (4 information, 9 warning, and 17 regulatory) were considered. The analysis revealed that drivers correctly comprehend 56% of signs. Information signs were with the highest (65%) comprehension level. Driver’s characteristics have been found with noticed influence on drivers' understanding level.
