What is it about?
Halide perovskite nanocrystals hold great scientific and technological promise. Structural dynamics links their chemically tailored nanostructure to optoelectronic properties. We examine how perovskite nanocrystals’ lattice dynamics evolve with their size and shape, ranging from few nm nanoplates to ~ten nm nanocubes.

Why is it important?
Our findings show how halide perovskite lattice dynamics evolve from nano to bulk. As halide perovskite nanocrystals grow in size and go out of quantum confinement, perovskite lattice vibrations activate and strengthen, and the phonon spectra approaches the form of the bulk material. Multiple vibrational modes broaden as the nanocrystal size increases. This is the opposite to conventional inorganic crystalline semiconductors’ behavior and contradicts the phonon confinement model.
