What is it about?
Particle-in-Cell and Geant4 were used to simulate a laser-based imaging setup dedicated to non-destructive testing of thick, high-density objects. Each major interaction involved in the imaging process was independently simulated as follows: 1. Electron beam production from laser-plasma interaction; 2. Photon beam production from electron beam attenuation; 3. Photon beam interaction with object and scintillator.

Why is it important?
Our simulation-based research shows the feasibility of employing powerful lasers to produce high-intensity gamma ray sources, dedicated to radiography and tomography studies for non-destructive testing applications.
