What is it about?
In this study, we successfully improved the thermoelectric performance of Ag2S0.55Se0.45 by substituting partially V element for Ag. This experimental study was supported by prediction of electronic structure calculated with density functional theory approach.

Why is it important?
Flexible thermoelectric generators (FTEGs) can generate useful electricity from waste and unused heat even at curved surfaces. The Ag2S0.55Se0.45 exhibits flexibility although it possesses crystal structure like other brittle compounds, and hence, this material is expected to consist of FTEGs in the future. However, the improvement of the thermoelectric performance is still low. Therefore, we tried to improve the thermoelectric performance. We revealed that the improvement was successfully performed by a partial V-substitution for Ag.
