What is it about?
We developed a device that is able to measure the charge and calculate the mass of micron sized dust particles. Test particles were injected into our detector system producing a signal waveform that is amplified and processed. An electric field is required influence the particles and alter the waveform in measurable ways. Particle detection limits are discussed and future improvements are explored.

Why is it important?
Studying the dust on Mars is a key driver for our research. An accurate understanding of particle charge and mass distributions is vital for rover success and for future manned missions. This data is critical for developing accurate forecasting models of dust storms.
