What is it about?

Among ferroelectric materials, Barium Strontium Titanate (BST) has interesting ferroelectric, pyroelectric, piezoelectric, and energy-harvesting properties. This material can be advantageously solution-deposited. We have elaborated BST thin films with a diluted precursor solution and have obtained films with enhanced ferroelectric properties.

Why is it important?

Diluting the solution allows changing the film morphology and therefore the properties. This way, we have obtained homogeneous and dense films with enhanced ferroelectric properties. Moreover, this dilution engineering allows a significant decrease in the poling voltage, which is a very promising result.

Perspectives

I hope that this work will contribute to the development of cheap, large-scale thin films with enhanced electric properties.
