What is it about?
Anisotropic polarizabilities of liquid crystals are important parameters for their implications in optical properties of these substances. We have validated a new method to calculate the anisotropic polarizabilities of liquid crystals. The advantage of this new method is that it allows the calculation of the elusive anisotropy of thermal expansion of nematic liquid crystals. In this article, the anisotropy of thermal expansion of nematic liquid crystals is reported for first time.
