What is it about?
Construction of diamagnetic coils and experimental measurements with them to characterize the diamagnetic field of an electron-cyclotron plasma thruster with magnetic nozzle. The measurements are used in a model that correlates well with the magnetic thrust measurements.

Why is it important?
The diamagnetic field of the plasma is directly related to the azimuthal currents generated in it, which interact with the applied magnetic field to generate magnetic thrust in the magnetic nozzle region. Thus, they provide valuable insights into the operation of the device. This diagnostic technique is used on an ECR plasma thruster for the first time.
