What is it about?

We developed a technique to wirelessly measure the temperature of a metallic object using inductive pulses. The technique provides a more average temperature measurement of the sensed object than previous point-like measurements with thermocouples or pyrometers. The technique can also be used in underwater measurements, so it may also be suitable to detect the temperature of metallic implants in biological tissue.

Why is it important?

The technique could improve industrial processes like induction hardening, induction heating, or even magnetic hyperthermia, providing a non-invasive temperature measurement.
