What is it about?

The emerging all-d-metal magnetic Heusler compounds show abundant physical functionalities in bulk conditions, however, the hidden properties related to the nanoparticles (NPs) have not yet been investigated experimentally. Here, the NiCoMnTi Heusler NPs have been manufactured by spark ablation technique, and their microstructural and magnetic properties have been studied.

Why is it important?

This is the first time report about the novel all-d-metal NiCoMnTi Heusler NPs since the bulk compounds were discovered in 2015. The related magnetic and microstructural properties have been studied. It will further unlock the functionalities for the new all-d-metal Ni(Co)MnTi Heusler compounds at nanoscale.

Perspectives

Our present results indicate that the spark-produced NiCoMnTi-based quaternary NPs show interesting properties. These superparamagnetic NPs will further expand the potential functionalities of this material family. Personally speaking, it is highly expected to further capture its potential application scenarios like ferro-fluids and heterogeneous catalysis in the future.
