What is it about?

Second-order unstable processes are frequently encountered in process industries. The higher-order process dynamics are approximated to second-order processes in order to design a controller. In industrial processes, Proportional Integral Derivative(PID) controllers are still widely used. PID, cascaded with filters, provides satisfactory closed-loop performance for unstable processes.

Why is it important?

The present study’s main aim is to develop control schemes for a class of unstable second-order processes. The methodology of the proposed control scheme is based on the Polynomial approach. For the time delay approximation, a higher-order Laguerre shift is utilized. The choice of the tuning parameter (λ) is analytically carried out using MS criteria.
