What is it about?
In an application like a spray, a fluid is pumped through a nozzle. The behaviour of the spray is strongly dependent on the properties of the liquid. In order to get a better understanding of this influence, a laser beam was used to stimulate ilumination ("fluorecence") of special dyes, which were added to different solvents. This fluorescence emitted by the dye within the spray enabled the recording with a fast and sensitive camera.

Why is it important?
Sprays are useful in various applications, e.g. spray cooling, coating or fuel injection. The spray characteristics deviate, when solvents with different liquid properties are being used. To get a better understanding of this influence, an imaging approach was applied and a better insight attained.
